Stockholm-based label Our Legacy’s founding date is stated as 1980-81 on their website, but this is actually the founder’s respective years of birth. It was actually founded in 2005 by childhood friends Jockum Hallin and Christopher Nying. Christopher states that the goal behind the clothing is to “To create timeless garments in a natural, well-dressed, and comfortable way”.

Their design aesthetic reflects a mixture of architectural & minimalistic influence as well as clips from music itself and its surrounding subculture. CRATE Denim Jeans and Jackets

Crate is made from salvaged deadstock denim found in the backrooms of LA fabric houses. Raw to slight fades, 50's to the 80's the fabrics are like nothing produced today. The patterns are drawn and cut by hand, then sewn together using old-fashioned techniques. We love Crate Denim!

A new brand to Penelope's this winter is Zuriick. In addition to their classic slip on, this Utah based shoe maker has introduced their first lace up kicks. Zuriick's line of shoes are sweatshop free and their tee's are made in L.A.!

NIEVES PUBLISHING

We just got in a selection of books from Nieves publishing. Based in Zurich, Switzerland, Nieves has been publishing artist books since 2001 by some of our favorite contemporary artist and designers. We are especially excited to be stocking the first book featuring the artwork of neighborhood legend Wesley Willis.

Fall 2007: Dunderdon

Founded by carpenter Per-Ivan Hagberg in Gothenburg, Sweden, Dunderdon has been revolutionizing workwear since 1997. Dunderdon adds smart design and great fits to the superior construction you would expect from a workwear brand. Per-Ivan’s design philosophy sums it up perfectly “Honest, simple designs are timeless. Our products should represent the highest craftsmanship and innovation, while never compromising on fit and style. We respect the past, but we don’t rely on it.”

We have stocked Dunderdon for a few seasons now, and this is certainly their best collection yet. In addition to the pants and outerwear that we’ve always loved, they have added may great knits, shirts, accessories, and even a women’s collection.

Fall 2007: Built by Wendy

Wendy Mullin does not sleep. In the past few years, she has designed a cowboy-inspired line for Wranger Jeans, written a how-to-sew book, created sewing patterns for Simplicity, opened new stores in Brooklyn & Los Angeles, and collaborated with some of the finest talents in the worlds of fashion, art, film, comedy, and music, all while pushing forward with her own aptly-named clothing and accessory line, Built by Wendy. Her line was an inspiration to us when we opened, and five years later it is still the most cherished line we stock. We love the timeless styles and the quirky, not-trying-to-hard approach to her fashion. Here is a recent interview with Wendy, where she talks a bit about her inspiration for her new collection: "My fall collection is what I would wear if I were a Waspy Connecticut girl in the 80’s. Preppy and classic; borrowing your mom’s Chanel purse."

Fall 2007: A.P.C.

Our first shipment of the fall collection from French phenomenon A.P.C. arrived today. We've been in love with their minimalist style and laidback grace since we opened, and this is one of their best seasons yet. Today, we got some dresses and shirts for women, and shirts, ties, belts and a black corduroy blazer for men. Many more deliveries from A.P.C. are expected throughout the fall and winter, we’ll keep you updated right here.

We just got in a shipments from two of our favorite San Francisco designers. First up, a batch of tee shirts and vinyl goodies from craft-masters FluffyCo:

Sidewalk sale this weekend!

It will be a busy weekend in the neighborhood with the first of two summer SIDEWALK SALES throughout Wicker Park and Bucktown, and the annual Wicker Park Fest around the corner on Damen Avenue (between Schiller & North Avenues). We love a great sidewalk sale, and this is sure to be one not to miss. Outside, we'll have some great deals for men & women including ton's of tee shirts from $15 to $19 (down from $28 to $48), spring and summer styles marked down 50 to 75%, and some ridiculously cheap shoes (like $20). Inside we'll have additional bargains on clothing, housewares and more as well as some homemade sweet treats!
